Well, we had a very nice weekend: sunny and warm. In Canada, today was a holiday, so this was good too. It helped put me in a better mood.
I met a friend for brunch with my other half, and then I got a haircut afterward. I walked both ways.
Before I started taking Dantrolene (Dantrium), I would never have done this, or if I had walked there, then I would have grabbed the bus back. It was an enjoyable walk in the sunny weather. Although, I find I am out of shape (I haven’t exercise in a long while). Once I get into a bit more shape by walking more, I hope to head back into the gym – Baby steps. It is like learning to walk all over again. I had to do this numerous time when I was younger.
I had ten operations growing up as a kid. Two were hernia operations done at the same time when I was about two and a half years old, and the rest were orthopedic surgeries directly related to my Cerebral Palsy (CP) for corrective surgery and spasticity relief. After every orthopedic surgery, I had to re-learn to walk. This wasn’t easy, but I never complained. I just dug inside myself, for some inner strength, and carried on as best I could. It didn’t take me long to get walking again. Although, sometimes I was on crutches for four to six weeks before I could walk without assistance, but this was rare (only one or two occasions).
Now, now I can walk again. There is no miracle here; I still have CP. The drug has relaxed the spasticity on my legs. I still walk with a limp, but it is not as prevalent as it was. I don’t stomp as hard when I walk. I am liking the results thus far. I just hope there are no issues with the drug. I have a follow-up on Friday that might answer this query; until then, I will just continue as I have been doing, enjoying the walk.
