I was at my heaviest again after Christmas 240lbs. I am only 5’4”. Actually, I am under that 5’3.5” now that I am older. I was feeling every pound of the weight. My hips and knees ached daily. I was out of breath just moving a little bit. I have osteoarthritis and asthma, so those issues don’t help my health issues.
I decided I couldn’t continue living like this. I had to do something. Now, I don’t consider this a New Year’s resolution; although, the timing does make it appear to be so. I can assure you that I don’t do resolutions. I have learnt long ago that I never stay with them. No, this will be a lifestyle change.
I cut back on my eating and the number of processed foods which make eating so much easier when one has a busy schedule. I started exercising.
At first, all I could do was walk for a bit. Now, I do modify push-ups and crunches (I am hoping to work up to the real thing, but I am taking things slowly. It’s only been three weeks, I have lost 12lbs and a half and inch around my belly (maybe even an inch as I didn’t initially measure it when I started.
My ultimate hope is to get down to mid-160s to low 170s. I am giving it a year; although, I want to be there by the time I retire in a year and a half. It’s a realistic goal.
I don’t want this blog to turn into a “Health Journey” blog; however, there will be posting outlining my progress. This health kick is only one aspect of my life. I am studying French and hope to become somewhat proficient in the language by next year. It’s part of getting back to my ancient heritage. I am also writing; perhaps not as much as I should, but I am writing.
Anyway, that’s where I am at. I will keep you posted.
